Truly.. TRAILBLAZERS….!
April 14th,2002..that was the golden day, we all stepped into this campus and the first signs of student life showed up in the corridors of the college block.
Entering the Anatomy dissection hall was thrilling.. Despite the casualties in the initial days, many of us grew to like the subject and spent more time with the cadavers. The coolest teacher was our dear Dr.Mohanty.. popularly known as KEANU REEVES who wore a long over coat and made Biochemistry lively and fun to learn. Physiology always sent shivers down our spine..
Our faculty realized that we were going slightly off track without any seniors to guide us. They gave us guidance and advices that helped us the most. They were our teachers, guides, seniors, well wishers.. every eye was on the first batch so we became better pruned.
December 2nd holds a very special place in our lives. Ever heard of students passing their first year in 6 to 7 months..! Yes that was us. We were given the green signal just two days before the exams.. We filled in the applications and received the hall ticket on the day of the exam.. Phew! Exams over… and we landed in second year…
As the announcement of results was delayed.., we enjoyed the unofficial classes n for the first time clinics. Then came the first ever culturals .. INDRAPRASTHA 2003..
The news paper made dresses ,the extra ordinary Block and Tackle rounds, helped us bag the second place.. proving our extra curricular talents.
We were now carrying the heavy loads of the Para clinical books., Our faculty were more friendly and approachable , they put in a lot of effort to make up for the deficiencies. Prof. Stephen was loved by all such an enthusiastic and energetic person he is! Not to forget Mr.Natarajan who is still remembered for his “Thanks to Pressure Cooker…”
The two sad events of our college life.. one the sudden and shocking demise of Madhusmita ma’am, our lecturer in Statistics.. and our own friend Fathima Bee who chose to end her life for reasons unknown! She was a quiet, simple and intelligent girl.
The second and third batch joined us as we took on colleges from all over the nation at SPANDAN 2003. Among all we bagged numerous prizes not to forget the third place in fashion show. I must say that the ‘Jute dress’ worn by Archa stole the show.
By now lots of friendly gangs had started developing in the dry social atmosphere of the college . We had a great time as we celebrated the friendship day with a party.
We entered third year …Community Medicine was full of active teaching. The surveys in PCP Nagar and Seliamedu, the trips to Ponlait, water works & garbage disposal plants…these were useful not only in learning but gave us opportunities to play in pump sets, pluck mangoes and tamarind from trees in the villages. Our sweet lecturer Dr.Sonali and Dr.Selvavinayagam guided us through.
The college wall magazine ‘Sanskar’ was brought out on 17th September… the creative writing talents of our students were in full swing. Then came the first inter-batch culturals… Planning, organizing, putting up with controversies , mending defects in time as well as participating , winning and celebrating… Trailblazers proved to be masters in all. “Ignited Minds” directed by Vinoth won all hearts. L&D was a clean sweep, thanks to Archa, Nitty & Shradha. Not to forget the wonderful Salad dressing by Arthi , Extraordinary Face Painting by Soumya John., the ‘Nutch Pre-paid card’ featuring Putta Ashvij and the Versatile ‘Fanaa’ dance by our girls are a few to mention... We won the trophies for L&D, fine arts, sports ..and the “OVER ALL CHAMPIONS”…
The next Talentia was held in our final year. Though the participation was less, the Fancy dress was the most memorable thanks to Soumya John’s make up effects. Loknath Sahoo became a star with his ‘Papa Kehte hain….’ , Senthil rocked the show with ‘ Nila atthu vaanath melai..’ It was a jubilant celebration as Trailblazers received the rolling shield for the last years events.
I remember the sleepless nights and the tension filled days as the final year exams were nearing. They came and went.. and we landed up in internship. . which is the happening year in a medical student life. It is an inevitable part of ‘Making of a doctor’ as we learn the practice of Medicine and the skills of Surgery. The night duties in casualty, mid night surgeries, emergency caesarean sections, resuscitation in the wards, declaration of deaths, praises from patients, treats and get togethers…oh! Life was so busy, yet so enjoyable..!
Before we knew it was Graduation day! The programs staged by the faculty and the students were absolutely fabulous and showed the involvement of all of them.. The Programs by the Trailblazers were so heart capturing that they will always be remembered in the history of MGMC&RI … we prove by means of our Skit and Dances that we are TRULY TRAILBLAZERS!!! Hats off!!!!
